Ford content with Lions contribution

Scotland hooker Ross Ford felt he did himself justice after helping the British and Irish Lions complete a record-equalling Test victory over South Africa.
Ford came off the bench for the injured Matthew Rees in the latter stages of the first half as the Lions averted a series whitewash with a memorable 28-9 triumph.

The 25-year-old's introduction ensured Scotland were represented in the three Tests as Mike Blair and Nathan Hines again sat out the contest.

But Ford felt he was more than capable of adapting to the high standard of rugby as the Lions tamed the world champions.

“It was great to get out there, to get that length of time on the pitch and be part of a Lions Test win,” Ford said.

“It was a really good experience. If you're on the bench it's always good to get some game time, whether it's five minutes or 15, but it's definitely better to be able to get out there and have that kind of extended run.

“I felt I was able to get into the game and really feel a part of it.

“The lineouts went pretty well, so obviously I was pretty pleased with that.

“I had worked on that all week and I knew within myself that I could throw in as well as anyone else. I was quite confident going into the game.

“As far as the pace was concerned, it wasn't all that different, just like another international really.

“The atmosphere in the stadium was just fantastic and it was great to be able to experience it.”
