Shane shines on possible Lions swansong

Two-try hero Shane Williams was delighted to put on a performance for the travelling fans after being handed his first start on the tour for what was likely to be the 32-year-old's final British and Irish Lions appearance.
“It was a great performance by the guys,” said the 2008 IRB player of the year. “The defence won the game today and I’m proud to be part of it.

“We didn’t deserve to be 2-0 down. We knew we were a good side and we were determined to prove it.

“Before going out I knew this would be my last appearance for the Lions. I was determined to go out and get involved. I’m really glad that I've enjoyed myself.”

Fellow try-scorer Ugo Monye revealed his spectacular 70-yard effort almost came at the cost of serious personal injury.

“I thought I was going to pull my hamstring,” he said of his blistering burst to the line after intercepting Wynand Olivier’s wayward pass.

“I thought I was going to break down and cry when I scored.”

The try was Monye’s fifth of the tour and the speedster was delighted to see the Lions get their just rewards after a gruelling tour.

“We didn’t deserve what we got last week and we got what we deserved today,” he continued.

“I’m glad that we could put it on in the final Test.”
