Jones returns to the Wales starting line-up at Toyota Park on Saturday for his 47th international cap having missed last weekend's 32-23 victory over Canada in Toronto with a twisted right knee.

With so many of the Welsh 2009 RBS 6 Nations squad on tour in South Africa with the British and Irish Lions, the Llanelli back believes everyone on the Wales tour has an extra motivation to shine in North America.

“On Saturday the guys have another chance to say 'pick me',” Jones said.

“We all have a chance to finish the season on a high and enter next pre-season feeling good about yourself that the Welsh management are looking at you with the autumn internationals and the following Six Nations coming around.

“So there's plenty to fight for.”

Jones also believes that, with Lions places still up for grabs as replacements for injured players in South Africa, Wales will benefit this weekend as their internationals put themselves in the shop window.

“I think the younger guys that have come on this trip have seen it as a huge opportunity for them to make a statement,” Jones said.

“And if the players that are with the Lions are injured or not playing so well then the management are happy to turn to the guys that are over here.

“That's important that they feel that if the call comes then they're ready and I think there's a lot of players on this trip that are showing that they are more than capable.

“That can only be good for Welsh rugby.

“And for the older guys on this trip, who perhaps feel that if they play well and the call comes from elsewhere then there's an opportunity to step up again.

“So the trip is serving a lot of purposes at the moment and we're all happy.

“There's no egos here, we're happy to be here, we're enjoying each other's company and the rugby's good.”
