Lamont joins French exodus

Scotland winger Rory Lamont will play his club rugby in France next season after Toulon revealed he is one of a number of international stars to have joined them for next season.

The versatile back, who can play at full-back as well as on the flank, has been at Sale for the past two seasons after leaving Glasgow.

But his two-year contract with the Sharks expires in May and though the Manchester-based side were interested in retaining the Perth-born flier, he has opted to join cash-rich Toulon instead.

Lamont, who missed the whole of the 2009 RBS 6 Nations through injury, will be reunited in France with former Sale coach Philippe Saint-Andre.

The English side have not seen the best of Lamont as his two seasons there have been wrecked by injury – indeed the 26-year-old missed the end of the season after an operation on his ankle ligaments.

Last season, Lamont's arrival was delayed by the World Cup and he was then sidelined by a serious facial injury sustained while playing for Scotland in their Calcutta Cup victory against England.

Lamont, who played just 19 times for Sale and scored nine tries, is the latest Scot to pledge his club future to a French club after Jason White, Andrew Henderson and Hugo Southwell.
