Scotland stars of the past, present and future tasted European glory when Northampton clinched the European Challenge Cup against Bourgoin.
England starlet Stephen Myler kicked all of the Saints’ points as they saw off the French outfit 15-3 in an often bad-tempered game at Twickenham Stoop.
Scotland men Euan Murray – poised to join the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa – and Scott Gray, who capped his resurgence in the game by starting the final game of the RBS 6 Nations against England, played the full 80 minutes for Northampton.
Tom Smith, former Scotland captain and a Lions legend, came on for the final six minutes as he bowed out of competitive rugby on a high with a standing ovation from the 8,000 travelling Saints fans.
And Joe Ansbro, the Glasgow-born centre who is in Scotland’s A squad for this summer’s matches, played the last 10 minutes of the match as Northampton secured Heineken Cup for next season at the expense of London Wasps.
