Lineen pointed to the 36-13 defeat at the hands of Heineken Cup semi-finalists Leinster as evidence his side can compete - but just need to be smarter, especially at the breakdown.

Glasgow led 13-8 midway through the first half and almost added another score through Scotland centre Graeme Morrison.

But Brian O'Driscoll's men repelled the drive and the Dubliners produced a terrific flurry to clinch the points.

Lineen said: "Leinster are masters of slowing the ball down, blocking, getting in the way ­ unbelievable stuff but they do it really well and get away with it. We retaliate and we get binned; we are just not streetwise enough."
