Strokosch has been left out of Gloucester's squad for the EDF Energy Cup final against Cardiff Blues after being substituted in the Premiership match against Northampton.

As a result of the injury, which has seen Strokosch suffer 'stingers' in his arms and shoulders, Gloucester do not expect their powerful forward to play again this season.

The lay-off comes at the worst possible time for the big-hitting flanker, with Lions coach Ian McGeechan weighing up his options for the tour to South Africa this weekend ahead of the squad announcement on Tuesday.

It is also a bad time for the Cherry and Whites, who are bracing themselves for three fixtures in the space of eight days which will define their inconsistent season.
