Calder seeks SRU role
11 April 2009, 9:09 am
By Justin Goulding
Scotland legend Finlay Calder admits he is flattered to be in the running to become the new president of the Scottish Rugby Union.
The former Lions captain will stand against incumbent Jim Stevenson, while former SRU committee member Jim Gracie is likely to make it a three-man battle at the AGM this summer.

Calder was one of the greatest forwards of his generation, winning 34 caps for Scotland, including playing in the Grand Slam-winning team of 1990, and leading the Lions on their victorious tour to Australia in 1989.

The Stewarts Melville FP stalwart has been involved in the grass roots of the sport in Scotland with a role advising young layers at Edinburgh Accies.

He said: "I'm delighted to have been asked by the Premiership clubs to be their candidate for president and feel very flattered and amazed really. I'm very excited to take on the nomination and look forward to the election."
