Glasgow rely on Barclay

John Barclay and Thom Evans scored twice each as Glasgow racked up an impressive 38-21 victory over the Scarlets at Parc y Scarlets.
The home defence was all but absent as Glasgow ran riot especially in the first half of this Magners League match.

The Scarlets went into the game confident of a good performance considering they had Stephen Jones, Mark Jones, Matthew Rees and Dafydd Jones back from Wales duty.

In a lung-bursting, entertaining opening quarter Glasgow emerged with a 19-3 lead with three tries in the space of three minutes - two for Barclay.

A brilliant break by Lome Fa'atau was finished off by fellow wing Thom Evans in the left corner despite a last-ditch tackle by Mark Jones - then it was the turn of the forwards to score the second with Barclay squeezing over.

The Scarlets stopped the rot briefly with a Stephen Jones penalty before Glasgow made a mockery of the home defence as Barclay breezed in under the posts.

The bonus point was brought up by prop Moray Low on 34 minutes after Barclay had won a lineout in the opposition 22.

In first-half injury time the Scarlets mounted something of a comeback with a try for centre Gavin Evans followed by a Jones penalty, but Glasgow still went in at half-time 26-14 up.

That became 33-14 just two minutes into the second half as more dubious defence by the Scarlets saw Max Evans pick up Fa'atau's chip ahead and run in unchallenged behind the posts.

The crowd were given something to cheer when flanker Dafydd Jones side-stepped his way over for the Scarlets' second try but it was a score which was cancelled out by Glasgow's sixth try for Evans 11 minutes later.

The hosts tried their best to close the 17-point gap in the final 10 minutes but the Glasgow defence, even with Kelly Brown in the sin-bin for a professional foul, were so more efficient than their own.

Defeat all but ends any faint hopes the Scarlets had of getting back in the title race.
