Alun-Wyn Jones hopes he can live up to the standards set by Ryan Jones when he leads Wales against Italy in Rome next weekend.
Second row Jones takes over from his back row namesake for the reigning champions’ penultimate 2009 RBS 6 Nations clash.
Wales need to boost their points difference at the Stadio Flaminio if they are to stand a chance of retaining their crown on the tournament’s final weekend when they face Gland Slam chasing Ireland.
“I’ve learnt a lot under Ryan - he has led the team in a fantastic manner,” he said.
“I have a lot to live up to, coming off the back of what Ryan has achieved.
“This has just surpassed my expectations of my rugby career. It is a great honour and a great privilege.
“When something like that [Wales captaincy] is offered to you, you don’t really think about it. I will take it with both hands.
“I should imagine I will be quite emotional. I like to wear my heart on my sleeve - and I will put that across to the players.”
