Powell commits to Cardiff

Wales No.8 Andy Powell has committed his future to Cardiff Blues, signing a deal which will keep him at the club until 2012.

Powell has recently broken into the Wales starting line-up and also been tipped by many as a potential Lions tourist.

After several years of injury problems and spells with Newport, Leicester, Beziers and the Scarlets, Powell has found form and will be a big asset to the Blues as they prepare for a move to their new stadium at the end of the season.

"Andy has been in outstanding form for us this season," said Blues boss Dai Young. "He has been unlucky over the last few years with injuries but having put a run of games together it is evident for everyone to see that he is a quality player with a real presence on the rugby pitch."

He is joined by prop Gary Powell, scrum-half Richie Rees and lock Bradley Davies in agreeing new contracts with the club.
