With the RBS 6 Nations looming, Edinburgh coach Andy Robinson has decided to rest Scotland captain Mike Blair for the visit of Castres to Murrayfield on Friday.
Robinson, also Scotland assistant coach, gives a rare start to Greig Laidlaw at scrum-half with Blair sitting out the penultimate Pool 2 European Cup tie.
In more good news for Scotland, full-back Chris Paterson returns to the replacements bench after a month out with bruised ribs while Test prop Geoff Cross is also rested.
Scotland lock Jim Hamilton is among the replacements, though Roland Reid is on standby to step in for the big forward, who is carrying a knock.
Scotland centre Nick De Luca returns to the side after being relegated to the bench last week, while prop Scotland prop Gavin Kerr is also recalled.
Edinburgh lie bottom of the four-team group, which also includes Leinster and Wasps, having lost three out of four matches so far.
Their only victory came against the French in a 13-6 win in October last year and it is realistically impossible for them to progress to the quarter-finals.
