Scotland's Jason White should be fit for the RBS 6 Nations after undergoing surgery on a dislocated finger.
The flanker, 30, suffered the injury in Sale's 31-3 Guinness Premiership victory over Wasps on Boxing Day.
But he is set to return before the end of the month, ahead of Scotland's opening RBS 6 Nations game against Wales on February 8.
A Scottish Rugby Union spokesman said: "Jason expects to be back in full training the week beginning Monday, January 26.
"Let's just hope he is able to adhere to the schedule that is before him at the minute."
White's injury is the latest setback for the player, who missed the entire 2007 RBS 6 Nations and most of last year's competition.
He also sat out his country's summer tour to Argentina after opting to undergo surgery on a long-standing knee problem.
He had been Scotland captain going into last year's tournament but has since been replaced by scrum-half Mike Blair.
