Murray enhances Lions claims

Scotland star Euan Murray took another step to booking his place on the flight to South Africa for next year's Lions tour with a herculean performance against Harlequins.

Murray has made steady progress in the Scotland pack over the past 18 months and is now regarded as a fixture in Frank Hadden's side.

His performances in the RBS 6 Nations and autumn internationals in 2008 have brought him to the attention of Lions coach Ian McGeechan.

And against Harlequins he showed just why, with 80 minutes of power and aggression which earned him the man of the match award - rare recognition for a prop forward.

He was up against Mike Ross, who has been touted by Quins coach Dean Richards for an England call-up, but destroyed his opposite number in the scrums.

Murray is likely to face competition from Adam Jones, Matt Stevens and Phil Vickery for the Lions loosehead role in South Africa but is probably currently heading the race for the No. 3 shirt.
