White begins RBS 6 Nations bid

Former captain Jason White started his bid for a place in Scotland's RBS 6 Nations team in Sale's Premiership match with Bath.

The Lions flanker had been missing for the Manchester-based club for the past fortnight as his wife gave birth.

But the Aberdeen-born forward played the full 80 minutes as Sale were agonisingly denied by Matt Banahan’s last-minute try for Bath at The Rec.

Neil Briggs had filled in for White during his absence but he moved forward to his usual hooking role for the game in the West Country.

White and his back-row colleagues, including man of the match Juan Martin Lobbe, dominated their counterparts in a performance which will have caught the eye of Scotland coach Frank Hadden.

The former Glasgow star faces competition from Gloucester’s Alasdair Strokosch and the versatile Ally Hogg for the number six shirt when the RBS 6 Nations begins in February next year.
