Edinburgh coach Andy Robinson believes Scotland flanker Ross Rennie has been punished too harshly for his tackle on Wasps' Paul Sackey in last weekend's European Cup clash at Murrayfield.
Robinson travelled to Dublin with Rennie in an attempt to convince the ERC panel that the challenge did not warrant any more than the yellow card the Test forward received during the match.
But Edinburgh's efforts failed and Rennie has been given a two week ban starting with the European Cup return fixture with Wasps at Adams Park.
Scott Newlands replaces Rennie on the openside for that game while Hugo Southwell comes in for Chris Paterson, who has a rib injury, and Andrew Kelly is drafted in for the rested Ross Ford.
Robinson said: "Naturally I¹m very disappointed with the decision regarding Ross.
"Anyone who knows him will testify he is a competitive player, but not a reckless one."
