Scotland
Scotland handed World Cup hope
1 December 2008, 3:23 pm
By Catherine Goble
Scotland were given a favourable draw in Pool B of the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand.
Frank Hadden's side were in the third tier of seeds for the draw in London and were therefore guaranteed to face two of the world's traditional powerhouses.

They were picked alongside 2003 champions England and top seeds Argentina with a qualifier from Europe and a play-off winner making up the group.

While England and Argentina, who put the Scots out of last year's tournament at the quarter-final stage, will provide tough opposition for Hadden and his team, it could have been a lot worse.

Tonga, for example, were in the same tier as Scotland and have ended up with New Zealand and France while Fiji face South Africa and Wales.

It will be the first time Scotland have played England in a pool match at the World Cup although they did meet in the 1991 tournament at Murrayfield in the semi-finals.
