Jones heads back to Swansea for the first time since he left the star-studded Welsh regional side.

The Wales international’s long battle to fully recover from a knee injury saw him play in England’s National League One before Worcester secured his services.

And Jones will now call the shots from fly-half for Worcester as they target a victory that would edge them closer towards a semi-final place.

Griffiths said: “Matthew is looking forward to going back, as he had some good days with Neath and the Ospreys. He will have a point to prove.

“Apart from Wasps away this season, this is the biggest test for Matthew.

“He has come in having played National One, and it is a massive step up. People think it is just a small transition, but it is a huge step up.

“Now he is getting more confident and getting to know the guys better. Matt is grabbing the chance with his own unique style, and he commands the respect of the forwards.

“It is a big game for Matthew, and he will need to keep a lid on it - his emotions will be running high - but he knows what he has to do.”

Worcester will be without shoulder injury victim Miles Benjamin, so Chris Pennell replaces him on the wing and full-back Chris Latham returns after being rested for last weekend’s European Challenge Cup victory over Bucuresti in Romania.

Griffiths added: “This is a real benchmark game for us.

“We go into the game on the back of some positive results in Europe. We have scored 16 tries in two games, and only conceded two.

“We have to be mindful of the fact that we have to defend, and when we have the ball we have got to be absolutely squeaky clean and not give away any turnover ball.

“They’ve got the likes of Shane Williams, Lee Byrne and James Hook, so it will be goodnight Vienna - they will punish you.”

Wales centre Gavin Henson returns to the Ospreys starting XV after completing a two-game ban, and a powerful replacements’ bench includes his Test colleagues Ryan Jones, Alun-Wyn Jones and Adam Jones.
