Rennie ready for return
23 October 2008, 9:57 am
By Justin Goulding
Ross Rennie could make his first competitive appearance for seven months after being named in the Edinburgh squad for tomorrow night's Magners League trip to Connacht.
The 22-year-old has been sidelined since suffering a serious knee injury in last season’s March 21 home fixture against the same opponents.

Rennie was today named as one of 11 possible replacements for this week’s trip to Galway, though that will be cut to seven before kick-off.

“I’m very happy to be included in the travelling party and I’m just looking forward to playing some rugby again,” said Rennie.

Head coach Andy Robinson named an unchanged starting XV from Saturday’s 13-6 win at Castres, Edinburgh’s first Heineken Cup victory on French soil.

Another possible substitute is hooker Andrew Kelly, who will make his 100th appearance for the club if he takes the field on Friday.

“I’m really proud to be on the verge of making my 100th appearance for Edinburgh,” said Kelly, whose was handed his debut six years ago.

“When I made my debut, Mossy (Chris Paterson), Blade (Mike Blair) and Chunk (Allan Jacobsen) were all involved in the starting line-up.

“I was on the bench along with Webbo (Simon Webster), so it is great that we are all still playing together six years on. I’ve experienced lots of highs and lows during my time with Edinburgh, but I wouldn’t change a single second.”

Matt Mustchin and Hugo Southwell, both of whom missed the win at Castres, were also among the list of potential replacements.

Robinson justified the bumper travelling party by revealing he had a few injury concerns ahead of the game.
