Chris Cusiter pushed his claims for a Scotland recall with a fine display for Perpignan in the European Cup.
The former Borders scrum-half lost his place to Rory Lawson in Scotland’s match-day 22 towards the end of the RBS 6 Nations.
But he has been in fine form for the French side this season and was again impressive as Perpignan were edged out by the Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium.
Cusiter’s good play has coincided with a dip in prospects for Lawson, who has lost his place in Gloucester’s side to Gareth Cooper of Wales.
Mike Blair is certain to keep the No 9 shirt for the autumn Tests after being named captain - and Cusiter, Lawson and Glasgow’s Mark McMillan will fight it out for the reserve scrum-half role.
Alasdair Dickinson and Alasdair Strokosch did, however, play the full 80 minutes for the Cherry and Whites as Gloucester lost to Cardiff Blues.
