Murray gives Hadden a nudge

Scott Murray gave Scotland coach Frank Hadden food for thought ahead of the autumn Tests with a magnificent performance for Montauban in the European Cup.

The little-known French side travelled to Munster to take on the European Cup holders at their famous and intimidating Thomond Park ground.

Few gave them much chance of stretching the Irish province but Montauban, located just north of European giants Toulouse, almost caused an upset before losing 19-17.

And Murray was at the heart of the brave performance with a superb display in the second row.

The former Edinburgh man was immense in the line-out against Lions stars Paul O’Connell and Donncha O’Callaghan and was energetic in the loose.

Murray, himself a Lions tourist in 2001, has been on the fringes of the Scotland squad for the past year with Jim Hamilton, Nathan Hines, Scott MacLeod and Ally Kellock ahead of him in the pecking order.
