Scotland coach Frank Hadden was given a welcome fitness boost with Jim Hamilton's first run-on role for Edinburgh.
Hamilton made his competitive debut for Edinburgh in the Celtic League game as a replacement against the Scarlets last week and made his first start for his new side at Newport Gwent Dragons.
The former Leicester lock made a quicker-then-expected recovery from a shoulder injury to take his place in Edinburgh’s side against the Welsh outfit, who squeezed to an 11-9 victory.
However Scotland quartet Ben Cairns, Dave Callam, Simon Webster and Ross Rennie are all still missing for Edinburgh and face a race against time to get fit for the autumn internationals.
