New Scotland forwards coach Mike Brewer hopes to instil greater confidence in his charges before next year's RBS 6 Nations.
The former All Blacks captain has replaced George Graham as the man to coach Scotland's pack.
His first task is to face the country of his birth at Murrayfield on November 8 before taking on the world champion Springboks the following week.
Frank Hadden's men then play Canada at Pittodrie in the final match of their autumn series – and the last preparatory game before the 2009 RBS 6 Nations.
"If they've got confidence in themselves, they'll start winning games they're not supposed to," said Brewer.
"By the time we've comes to the end of the Canadian game, we've grown and developed, and then we can lead into the RBS 6 Nations."
