Opening-day joy for Scots duo

Scotland stars Sean Lamont and Euan Murray helped Northampton to make the perfect start to their return to the English Premiership.

Winger Lamont and prop forward Murray played the full 80 minutes as the Saints saw off Worcester 21-13 at Franklins Gardens.

The home side were 6-3 behind at half time but wonderful play from Carlos Spencer led to tries from Jon Clarke and Dylan Hartley to secure victory for Northampton.

Elsewhere in the top flight of English rugby, Scotland flanker Alasdair Strokosch and scrum-half Rory Lawson both started for Gloucester but were defeated by Leicester 20-8.

Scotland skipper Jason White missed out on Sale's victory at Newcastle through injury while stand-off Gordon Ross was an unused substitute for Saracens in their loss at the hands of Harlequins.
