Jones reappointed Ospreys skipper

Wales captain Ryan Jones will continue to lead club side Ospreys this season after being reappointed as skipper.
The influential back-rower was initially handed the role last summer before being appointed national captain by Wales coach Warren Gatland ahead of this year's RBS 6 Nations campaign.

Jones, who lead Ospreys to glory in the Anglo-Welsh Cup last season, said: "It is a tremendous honour to be appointed captain of any side, particularly one that is packed with quality, experienced players so understandably I'm delighted to be invited to continue as Ospreys captain.

“Personally, I believe that my first year in the role went well, and the EDF Energy Cup win stands out as an obvious highlight, but I'm sensible enough to know that I can continue to improve as captain, and will be constantly looking to do so.

"Within the Ospreys camp we have a number of leaders, all of whom have an input on a daily basis, and their support makes the role of captain that much easier.

“I'm looking forward to the new season where as a group we will be looking forward to building on our achievements last season, which will mean improving on our Magners League and Heineken Cup finishes.

“If we work hard and concentrate on the little things, hopefully we'll be enjoying more celebrations over the course of this season."

Ospreys coach Sean Holley added: "The role of captain is a vitally important one in any team and it is important that the person possesses the right characteristics.

“Ryan excelled as Ospreys captain last season, he really matured into the role over the course of the year and thoroughly deserves the opportunity to continue this year.

“He is someone who is highly respected by his fellow professionals and that is something that is crucial; he leads from the front and provides inspiration to his team-mates while retaining a cool head enabling him to make the right decisions.

"He is completely focused on developing the Ospreys culture, which is something we have worked on intensely as a group over the summer, and he has a clear view and idea of what he expects from his fellow players.

“As a management team, we have no doubt that he will enjoy another successful year as captain, aided by a strong leadership group and experienced overseas players, enabling the Ospreys to prosper on and off the field.”
