Ospreys and Dragons fail in Sevens bid

The Ospreys and Dragons both failed in their attempts to become the first Welsh victors in the Middlesex Sevens when they crashed out in the opening round at Twickenham.

Ospreys made an early exit from the charity event when they suffered a heavy 26-5 loss to Sale while the Dragons, despite putting on a more impressive performance then their compatriots, went down 28-19 to London Irish.

Harlequins eventually ran out winners in the competition with a comfortable 22-12 win over the British Army.

Both Welsh sides also suffered defeats in the second tier Plate competition, Ospreys losing 33-17 to Leeds and Dragons going down 29-14 to Northampton.
