Newcastle prop David Wilson could require surgery after being injured while on England Saxons duty.
Wilson strained his right pectoral muscle during a conditioning session at this week’s Saxons training camp.
He underwent an MRI scan today and will see a shoulder specialist on Friday to discuss possible surgery.
The 23-year-old is among four props in a 32-man Saxons squad selected last month for the 2008/09 season.
And any long-term absence would be a major blow for Guinness Premiership relegation favourites Newcastle Falcons, who kick off their league campaign against Sale Sharks on September 7.
