Cross was not a regular in Andy Robinson’s side last season but enjoyed more game time during the last two months of the Celtic League.

That led to him being selected for the Scotland A squad to play in the Churchill Cup in Canada.

But Craig Smith’s withdrawal from the senior party to Argentina saw Cross called up to join Frank Hadden’s squad to take on the Pumas in two Tests and he hopes to keep making progress.

He said: “I am pleased at the way I managed to perform in the games I had for Edinburgh and that they led to me being initially offered a place on the A Tour and then being elevated up to the senior tour.

“Now I want to continue the momentum I've generated over the past few months. I want to be pushing for a regular place at tight-head at Edinburgh and I want to be pushing for representative honours.

“The main job is to play for Edinburgh and to perform for the team and that will be my goal next season. If I get that right then other things will follow, but that has to come first.

“What contributed to my form over the last few months was my concentration on accuracy. It is about focusing on the simple things and doing them well repeatedly.”
