Blair eases fitness worries

Scotland captain Mike Blair insists he will be fit for the start of the season despite undergoing an operation on his ribs this week.

The scrum-half - who has led the side since the RBS 6 Nations in the absence of the injured Jason White - aggravated a long-standing rib injury during the side's tour of Argentina.

The Edinburgh star underwent surgery hours after returning to Scotland earlier this week.

Blair said the problem was "nothing drastic, just a bit uncomfortable when I sleep on it".

The 27-year-old - who is a leading contender to captain the Lions on their tour of South Africa this time next year - insisted he would only require a few weeks rest before beginning pre-season training with Edinburgh.

Blair won his 50th cap as Scotland beat the Pumas 26-14 at Velez Sarsfield to draw the two-Test series in the Southern Hemisphere.
