Thistles take Melrose sevens

The Scotland 7s development team, the Scottish Thistles, won the 125th anniversary Melrose Sevens after beating Leicester Tigers in the final 33-12.

Ali Warnock claimed two early tries for the Thistles to take a 12-0 lead and winger Ben Addison added try number three but Will Lawson hit back for Leicester.

Second-half scores from scrum-half Greig Laidlaw and a man-of-the-tournament Mike Adamson, both goaled by Warnock, ensured victory for the Thistles despite Ben Youngs’ late try for Leicester.

The eventual winners had beaten Ulster 21-5 in their semi-final, while Leicester got past the hosts Melrose 31-7.
