Sean Lineen's Glasgow and the Edinburgh side of Andy Robinson pit their wits against each other at Firhill Arena on Friday night.

The match takes place in the league but there is also the extra incentive of the 1872 Challenge Cup to play for.

It is contested over the two meetings of Glasgow and Edinburgh in the league and is awarded to the team with the best aggregate score over the two legs.

And while Henderson - who endured a mixed RBS 6 Nations campaign as coach Frank Hadden tinkered with his midfield backs - is desperate for some local bragging rights, he is also looking at the bigger picture.

Edinburgh are six points ahead of Henderson's Glasgow in the league table so a win for the Warriors would go a long way in helping them to achieve their aim of finishing higher than their rivals.

The 28-year-old said: “I can’t wait for the game. It’s always a big occasion when Glasgow and Edinburgh come together in a derby and there is plenty to play for this year.

“We’re pretty close in the table and the outcome of next week’s game could determine not only who wins the 1872 Cup, but who finishes as the top Scottish team in league.”
